Le 13 septembre 1848, dans l’état du Vermont, Phineas Cage a survécu au bourroir qui lui avait perforé le crâne de part en part. Guéri, on observa une infléxion notable de son tempérament : l’homme attentionné, sociable et fiable, laissa place à un homme capricieux, grossier et asocial. Ce changement mit alors en évidence l’existence d’un lien direct entre le cerveau et le comportement. 
130 ans plus tard, la résonance magnétique permet une vision de l’intérieur du corps vivant entrain de vivre, avec l’idée originelle de le soigner en repérant ses dysfonctionnements et maladies. Incidemment, grâce à la découverte du lien entre l’activité cérébrale et le flux sanguin, elle a permis de voir fonctionner le cerveau. 

Le corps, enveloppe charnelle habitée, animée, et l’outil, l’IRM, qui permet l’appréhension du fonctionnement de ce qui anime. 
La conscience d’être nous place au centre (dans certaines visions su monde) mais en même temps nous renvoie à notre place dans le cosmos, autant de notre vivant, qu’avant et après notre vivant. 
L’autel, l’espace-temps du sacré, du passage du terrestre au céleste ; le corps, au centre, disposé sur cet autel, devient autant objet de sacrifice, objet sacré et objet d’étude.

Si le corps est le contenant indissociable de la conscience, celle-ci se répand-elle à partir du cerveau ? 
Bergson nous dit que la conscience est ce qui nous permet de lier passé, présent et futur ; ce qui rend possible la construction de soi par soi. 
La possibilité de compréhension de la conscience humaine ne renvoie-t-elle pas au cosmique, à la matière inerte qui devient vivante, pour, un jour, retrouver son état inerte. Le noir, l’absence de lumière, le trou noir qui absorbe tout et dont on ne sait rien de la nature de la restitution.

The consciousness of being places us at the center (in some visions of the world) but at the same time sends us back to our place in the cosmos, as much in our lifetime, as before and after our lifetime. 
The altar, the space-time of the sacred, from the passage from earth to heaven; the body, in the centre, placed on this altar, becomes as much an object of sacrifice, a sacred object and an object of study.

If the body is the inseparable container of consciousness, does consciousness spread from the brain? 
Bergson tells us that consciousness is what allows us to link past, present and future; what makes it possible to build oneself by oneself. 
Doesn't the possibility of understanding human consciousness refer to the cosmic, to the inert matter that becomes alive, so that one day it can return to its inert state ? The black, the absence of light, the black hole that absorbs everything and of which we know nothing about the nature of the restitution.
